Les Blank has always been something of a hero to me. There’s not a film of his I haven’t liked. I always admired how he had a knack for not getting in the way of subjects too much, while at the time communicating his perspective through the edit and careful framing. A hard balance to strike, and something to aspire to. Along with Huell, he’s up there with the best of them.
